Academic Facilities & Laboratories
At Sikkim College of Pharmacy & Research (SCPR), a wide range of academic facilities are provided to the students to assist them at every stage of their course. These include high-tech, well-equipped laboratories in the Departments of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, and Pharmacognosy, which serve as a strong framework for our graduates to help them develop capabilities to become world-class pharmacists and scientists.
Academically as well as socially productive in-house projects and research work are taken-up in these laboratories.
The classroom and laboratory infrastructure is backed by well-furnished seminar halls and conference rooms where presentations on scientific and other topics are organized by faculty members and students.

The lab is equipped with sophisticated instruments like an isolated organ bath, assemblies for isolated tissue experiments, rota rod apparatus, analgesiometer, convulsiometer, Cook’s pole apparatus, etc. Various experiments set up in the lab include isolated tissue experiments. In vivo pharmacological screening experiments for CNS, CVS, respiratory, GIT, and renal drugs
The lab has sophisticated instruments like hemocytometers, BP measurement apparatus, ECG machine, spirometer, muscle physiology experiment apparatus, isolated heart experiments, anatomical models and charts, etc. Various experiments set up in the lab include basic hematological experiments, respiratory and cardiovascular physiology experiments, and experiments on human anatomy using histological slides, anatomy charts, and models.
The lab is equipped with modern instruments like equipment for Reynolds number measurement, balances, microscopes, various manometers and flow meters, and distillation assemblies. Various experiments set up in the lab include pharmaceutical engineering, unit processes in pharmaceutics, and the study of the physical properties of various materials used for formulation.
The lab contains sophisticated instruments like a 10-station rotary tablet machine, ampoule washing, filling, sealing, and clarity testing apparatus, capsule filing machines, ointment filling machines, collapsible tube crimping machines, 6-station digital dissolution test apparatus, disintegration apparatus, friability and hardness tester for tablets, infrared moisture balance, tincture press, dry granulator, wet granulator, tablet coating pan, ball mill, and planetory mixer.
The lab has instruments like deionizers, suppository molds, centrifuges, etc. Various experiments set up in the lab, including drug formulation preparation, stability studies, and process testing studies, can be conducted in this lab.
The lab has a varied collection of instruments, like an aseptic room, a laminar air flow bench, autoclaves, B.O.D. incubators, dry heat sterilizers, filtration assemblies for sterilization, antibiotic zone readers, digital colony counting apparatus, refrigerators, microscopes, etc. Various experiments set up in the lab include staining and culturing of bacteria using microbial assays and sterility testing.
The lab is well equipped with instruments like fume cupboards, centrifuges, microscopes, glassware, and other requirements for qualitative and quantitative estimation of various biochemicals. The lab is equipped with sophisticated instruments like analytical balances, equipment, and glassware pertaining to quantitative analysis of various drugs by I.P., B.P., and U.S.P. methods. Various experiments set up in the lab include acid-base, redox, complexometric, gravimetric, non-aqueous, potentiometric, spectrophotometric titrations, Karl Fischer titrations, fluorimetric estimations, conductometric estimation of buffer capacity, etc.
The lab has sophisticated instruments like colorimeters, conductivity meters, digital pH meters, flame-photometers, Karl-Fischers apparatus, photofluorimeters, polarimeters, potentiometers, refractometers, and spectrophotometers. Various experiments set up in the lab include experiments based on instrumental methods of analysis.
The lab contains instruments like microscopes, soxhlet apparatuses, TLC spreaders, column chromatography apparatuses, charts for plant microscopy, and herbal drug museums. Various experiments set up in the lab include those pertaining to the study of macroscopic, microscopic, and chemical analyses of herbal drugs and the extraction of active constituents using various techniques.
